JevModel vs the official Jev playground
Compare the TypeSafe console playground with JevModel, an independent Jev playground: model, account, free usage, API, batch, flows and billing.
Last updated:
Short answer
- Both run the Jev model. TypeSafe’s playground is first party and leads straight into the TypeSafe API and SDKs. JevModel is independent, calls typesafe/jev-1.13 through OpenRouter, and adds a no-signup trial, free daily runs, browser Batch and visual Decision Flows.
- Pick TypeSafe for first-party support and direct billing. Pick JevModel to test without an account, process files without code, or keep Playground, Batch and API on one balance.
Same model, different operators
TypeSafe AI builds Jev. Its quickstart describes a console at console.typesafe.ai with a playground that “runs Jev in the browser”: you sign in, paste a state and add questions without code. JevModel is an independent website that is not affiliated with TypeSafe AI. Every live run on JevModel sends the request through this site’s server to OpenRouter with the pinned model ID typesafe/jev-1.13, so answers come from the real model rather than a mock. The extra hop matters for latency and data handling, which the sections below cover.

When the official playground is the better choice
Use TypeSafe directly if you want a first-party relationship: support from the team that trains the model, the official SDKs, and billing on one TypeSafe account. It also removes a hop, so you depend on one provider instead of three (JevModel, OpenRouter and TypeSafe). If your organization must approve every data processor, a direct contract is usually simpler.
Use Jev in Codex with the Official TypeSafe SkillWhen JevModel is the better choice
Use JevModel when you want to see a real Jev answer before creating any account, when non-developers need to classify a spreadsheet without writing code, or when you want to design a multi-step decision visually and call it with one request. 5 free runs a day cover evaluation, and token packs do not expire, which suits uneven workloads. The JevModel API uses its own key; keep requests in one adapter so moving to the official API later only changes the endpoint and authentication.
How to use Jev: a step-by-step guideJevModel API: request and responseData handling and latency
On JevModel, inputs pass through this site and OpenRouter before reaching the model. No-signup runs are not stored. Signed-in runs stay in your history for up to 30 days and can be deleted. Each extra hop adds network latency, so measure response times on your own requests rather than relying on either service’s claims. Do not send secrets or sensitive personal data to either playground.
Private runs and historyFrequently asked questions
Is JevModel the official Jev playground?
No. The official playground is in the TypeSafe console. JevModel is an independent service that calls the same model through OpenRouter.
Do both playgrounds give the same answers?
They call the Jev model, but model versions and provider settings can differ over time. JevModel pins typesafe/jev-1.13. Compare a few of your own cases on both if exact parity matters.
Can I use a TypeSafe API key on JevModel?
No. The keys are not interchangeable. Create a JevModel key in the Console for jevmodel.app, and use TypeSafe keys only with api.typesafe.ai.
JevModel is independent and not affiliated with TypeSafe AI.
