SemIf vs Jev: open model or hosted API?

Compare SemIf’s local option scoring with Jev’s hosted decisions, including deployment, calibration, and the OpenJev name.

Are SemIf and Jev the same model?

No. Jev is TypeSafe AI’s hosted decision model; JevModel accesses it through OpenRouter. SemIf is an independent open research project that scores declared options with other models. SemIf was formerly called OpenJev, but the separate razorback16/openjev server also uses the OpenJev name. Check the maintainer and repository before following a setup guide.

How do the answers differ?

SemIf reads probabilities for typed options directly from an open model’s logits, without generating an answer sentence. Its published experiments include workload-specific temperature calibration. Jev also returns typed Choice, Score, and Noul results, but its model and training are not disclosed. Similar output fields do not make the probabilities interchangeable.

Which deployment fits?

Use this site’s Jev workbench or API when you want a managed path for text or JSON decisions. SemIf publishes code and model-backed local runners, including GPU, Apple Silicon, and a slower CPU path; that gives you more control but also makes model downloads, hardware, and operations your responsibility. Its browser demo is useful for exploration, not evidence that your production workload will perform the same way.

How should you compare them?

Build a small labeled set from your own workflow. Give both systems the same state, question, option definitions, and action threshold. Compare errors and probability calibration on held-out cases, then measure full request latency and operating cost. Keep irreversible or high-impact actions behind application rules and human review.

JevModel is independent and not affiliated with TypeSafe AI.
